‘Emancipation’ was my final year work for my Design Degree at Liverpool Hope University. As I became involved in carnival I developed an interest in artifacts and rituals, how objects are worn and used by different cultures to mark significant events. I made a series of large-scale jewellery pieces to reflect these themes using a mixture of materials and techniques. I was awarded the Liverpool Hope Purchase Prize for my copper and feather neckpiece which is on permanent display in the University art collection. Additionally I was awarded the Knowsley Galleries Exhibition Award and was invited to exhibit my degree collection at ‘Crafted’ in summer 2012.
